چکیده

Container movement by trucks with time constraints at origins and destinations is modeled as an asymmetric “multi-Traveling Salesmen Problem with Time Windows” (mTSPTW) with social constraints. A two-phase exact algorithm based on dynamic programming (DP) is proposed that finds the best routes for a fleet of trucks. Since the m-TSPTW problem is NP-hard, the computational time for optimally solving large size problems becomes prohibitive. For large size problems, we develop a hybrid methodology consisting of DP in conjunction with genetic algorithms. The developed algorithms are compared with an insertion heuristic method. Computational results demonstrate the efficiency of the developed algorithms.

A Systematic Framework for Implementing Six Sigma in the Landside of Marine Container Terminals

In this research, an accurate optimization model, based on the Six Sigma methodology was used in order to assists marine container terminal operators to minimize trucks congestions. to smooth gate activity and to shorten trucks turn-around times. The main purpose of this paper is to report findings of implementing the Six Sigma in the landside of marine container terminals to reduce the average...

Quay Cranes and Yard Trucks Scheduling Problem at Container Terminals

A bi-objective mathematical model is developed to simultaneously consider the quay crane and yard truck scheduling problems at container terminals. Main real-world assumptions, such as quay cranes with non-crossing constraints, quay cranes’ safety margins and precedence constraints are considered in this model. This integrated approach leads to better efficiency and productivity at container te...

A Simulation Model for Optimization of the Internal Handling Fleet Size at Shahid Rajaee Container Port Based on Performance Evaluation

The dramatic increasing of sea-freight container transportations and the developing trend for using containers in the multimodal handling systems through the sea, rail, road and land in the present market cause some challenges to the general managers of container terminals such as increasing demand, competitive situation, new investments and expansion of new activities and the need to use new m...

Comparison of AHP and FAHP for Selecting Yard Gantry Cranes in Marine Container Terminals

The time that containerships or transportation trucks spend in marine container terminals for loading and unloading their cargo is a real cost scenario which affects, not only the smooth operation of ports, but also affect the overall cost of container trade. The operators of shipping lines and container terminals are required to realize the importance of this issue and the costs associated wit...
